2019 Albarino Reserve

100% Albarino

Where our Albarino is typically an all stainless steel affair, this Albarino was 100% fermented and aged in oak barrels using a combination of commercial and native or “wild” yeasts. In evaluating the 2019 growing season we decided that it would be a perfect opportunity to try something new with Albarino. Fermenting in barrels was a way to bring added texture and structure to the wine to balance its natural acidity and the use of native yeast imparted subtle unique flavors. Notes of white peach, lemon creme, and a hint of vanilla with a rich, balanced finish.

Sourced from Bluemont, O1V and Windhorn vineyards (all Loudoun County)

Pairs well with ceviche, seared scallops, grilled corn on the cob, prosciutto

2017 Ascent White

50% Petit Manseng, 50% Chardonnay

The first in the “Ascent White” series is composed of a single barrel each of Petit Manseng and Chardonnay. Slightly experimental in nature, the 2017 Petit Manseng started with wild yeast with a transition to a stronger, commercial yeast at 5% alcohol in order to complete fermentation. A long, cold barrel fermentation resulted in a rich, balanced wine with great acidity but 16% alcohol. In order to balance the alcohol, we decided a blend of Chardonnay would be complementary and add to the overall mouthfeel of the wine. The resulting 2017 Ascent White is full of ripe pineapple notes and tropical flavors, honey, a crisp acidity, lush body and slight alcohol heat on the finish.

Pairs well with chanterelle mushroom risotto, grilled bacon-wrapped shrimp, assorted cheeses

2017 Bourbon Cabernet Sauvignon

83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot

One of the first new releases is Bluemont’s 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon “Bourbon Barrel Aged” red wine. This wine’s journey began to take shape after aging in traditional French and American barrels for 6 months. The idea here was not to overwhelm the Cabernet Sauvignon wine but to enhance and introduce some new flavors and aromas. The result is an easy-drinking wine with notes of vanilla, currants, and cocoa with a unique depth and complexity. Allow the wine to warm slightly to release more of the bourbon notes.

Pairs well with smoked dishes and cheeses, grilled food or  rich meats such as beef wellington

2019 Rose of Cabernet Franc

100% Cabernet Franc

Produced using the saignée style of winemaking, the 2019 Rosé of Cabernet Franc was created by bleeding or removing a portion of Cabernet Franc juice that had just been crushed and destemmed. The juice is allowed contact with the Cabernet Franc skins for a short period of time for color and lite tannin pickup. A very slow, cold fermentation took place in 100% stainless steel tanks. Light salmon color, medium-bodied with a touch of residual sugar makes this Rose a perfect candidate for pairing with meals or enjoyed by itself on a spring day.
